About Bausch & Lomb Contacts Lens Company

    Clearly Contacts Glasses

The Bausch & Lomb company was started in 1853 in the USA by two German immigrants by John Jacob Bausch & Henry Lomb (hence the name Bausch & Lomb). In the beginning, they were manufacturing eyeglasses. By 1876 the company expanded and started making camera lenses, microscope lenses, binoculars and telescopes.

In 1892 the company paired with Zeiss Germany (who make today’s highest quality camera lenses) and added optical lenses to their ever-expanding business.

During the first and second world wars, Bausch & Lomb were recruited by the US government & military to create field glasses, target finders, camera lenses, binocular telescopes, searchlight mirrors, torpedo tube sights, and periscopes.

By 1930, 70% of their manufactured products were military-oriented. Their still fashionable Ray-Ban sunglasses were initially developed in 1936 to help Air Force pilots see better in various conditions.

After the second world war, Bausch & Lomb expanded by opening production facilities in Canada, Brazil and Argentina.
Today the company employs over 13,000 people in over 35 countries around the world. In 2006, the company turnover was over $2.29 billion.

Bausch + Lomb Released the first contact lenses in 1971 and has been growing its market in the area ever since. Including making contact lens solution, and different varieties of Contact lens for every eye problem solution.

Bausch + Lomb is now based in Quebec, Canada, and is now one of the world’s largest contact lenses, care products.
