There are certain reasons why some people stick with the brands they know, perhaps they grew up with them as children like the oh so famous Oreo commercial and you buy them because it’s what you have always grown up with. Other people have Brand Loyalty because they assume the more expensive the brand is, the better that the food will taste, again this is also not always the case as there are many cheaper store brands such as Presidents Choice from Zehrs/Superstore where most people have found in blind taste test studies that they actually preferred the cheaper alternative.
One thing as an extreme couponer you will have to do is break free from some of your brand loyalty habits, try new products using coupons; some stores like Costco offer free samples so that you’re not blindly buying something that you won’t like which is very useful.
There are also lots of flash contests and such that are hosted on Facebook where you can secure yourself a full size product; many times its a popular brand that you have heard of, Proctor and Gamble are very well known for this on top of their famous “Brand sampler” packages.
Another thing is sometimes you are working with the money you are making on coupon overages if you shop at Wal-mart or other stores that allow this, and though to some it doesn’t seem feasible to buy 100 cans of beans from a company you have never heard of, if you have enough coupons, and you are getting profit from buying these, then why not? If you don’t like them there is always friends and family who might and of course your local food banks would more then appreciate the donation.
Now there are some companies who want you to remain brand loyal; they will over initiatives such as coupons on their packaging, free samples, low prices ECT… and these shouldn’t be counted out, there are some things that I will remain loyal to, mattresses for example, I will only buy one brand because I have had bad experiences with other companies, the moral of the story is to at least try new things, especially if you can get them at a deal, if you don’t like that you can at least say that you tried and you can then go back to your regular brand.
