Eco Vessel Review & Giveaway (USA/Canada) 09/10

Four years ago I decided to give up drinking soda in order to get healthier and lose weight. Daily, I consume about 5+ large glasses of water and depending on my activity sometimes more.  Getting enough water is sometimes difficult especially when I am at work. On Tuesdays I generally work 13 hours and by mid afternoon I usually start to  feel extremely dehydrated, but not anymore. Not since I discovered a wonderful company that makes eco-friendly water bottles.

Allow me to introduce………………

ECO VESSEL

Eco Vessel is a company based in Boulder, Colorado who specialize is eco-friendly bottles and containers. They have a wide variety of different products to suit just about anyone. They carry Glass Bottles, Filtration bottles, Insulated bottles, Tritan water bottles, Single wall steel bottles, bottles for kids, food storage and accessories.

So what is so different about Eco Vessel? Well, to start out their bottles are 100% recyclable.  They are BPA free, lead free and contain no phthalates. They are constructed from high quality, non-leaching materials which gives you confidence that they are always safe to consume food or drinks from. There is no sense in consuming more water if your water is being contaminated by your bottle you are using.

You may be wondering why should I invest in a new water bottle?  I can just go the store and pick up a whole case of water for a fraction of the price. The answer is simple.  Do it for yourself and your environment.  Did you know that about 80% of all plastic water bottles (the type you buy at the grocery store) are never recycled.  Most people just chuck them in the garbage. Especially if you are out and about. You just throw it in the garbage bin at the local park. This action results in more than a million tons of waste per year and it takes forever for just one water bottle to decompose. If that isn’t enough to help you change your mind than how about all the horror stories of people leaving their water bottles in a hot car, causing the plastic to leach harmful chemicals back into your drinking water. Not something I want to consume.

When I was given the opportunity to try out an Eco Vessel bottle I jumped at the chance.  I already have a few water bottles that I use on a regular basis, but I was curious about how Eco Vessel would differ from the stainless steel bottle I already use.

The wonderful people over at EcoVessel wanted show me how versatile their products can be and actually sent me two different models to test out. The first bottle I selected was for myself.

I chose the Vue Double Wall Glass Bottle in the Green Zen Colour.

Isn’t it pretty?  This bottle is like nothing I have ever seen or owned before. It is really long and lean. It measures 2.5″ at the base and 10″ tall.  I love it!  This design is super easy to grip because it is so narrow, but don’t be fooled by its physic. It holds a lot of liquid. This Vue bottle has a double glass wall design and is perfect for keeping cold beverages cold and hot ones hot.  Yes you heard me right. You can use it for both hot and cold drinks. I have been using it for over a week now.  I have been taking it to work with of all things milk in it.  I don’t usually drink milk but have become addicted to having an instant breakfast when I am feeling sluggish at work. I just fill the bottle up in the morning and throw a packet in my purse.  When the 3 o’clock blah’s hit I am good to go.  Every day I lay the bottle down in the companies fridge and it has never leaked.  In order to mix in the packet of instant breakfast I have to vigorously shake the bottle guess what still no leaks.  It truly is leak-proof. The Vue double wall glass bottle has an easy flip top lid which I found a little hard to open the first few days but you quickly get the hang of how to open it and now it is no problem at all. Since I am constantly interrupted during my breaks at work I love that the double glass walls keep my milk cold even when it is out of the fridge for quite some time. I also like that the bottle is made of clear glass. It is super easy to clean.  You can either hand wash it or throw the glass portion in the dishwasher and just hand wash the top. I like that I can see inside the bottle and make sure it is completely clean. Can’t do that with a stainless steel or an opaque plastic bottle. One other thing I didn’t even notice until it was mentioned on the Eco Vessel website is that the bottle does not sweat. There was absolutely no condensation on my bottle.

Before sitting down tonight to write this review I had to know if the Vue Double Wall Glass Bottle would actually keep beverages hot too. So I made myself a cup of java and gently poured it into my Eco Vessel. Because it is glass I was a little scared. I added my cream and sugar and gave it shake. The results….. half an hour later and my coffee is still reasonably warm and it has been sitting with the lid open on my table.  The outer walls of the Vue Double Wall Glass bottle never got hot. You don’t feel the heat on your hands. Loving it!! This bottle also came with a handy stainless steel mesh tea strainer which is awesome for any of you tea drinkers out there.  My new Eco Vessel bottle is getting used every single day now and I can’t wait until the fall so I can use it for soup too. This bottle is just under $20.00 and in my opinion worth every single cent. It is super versatile, easy to clean, totally eco-friendly and looks very chic at the same time. It rates a huge score in my books.

Next up, is the second water bottle I received to try out from Eco Vessel. This time it is something a little different.

The Aqua Vessel Insulated Filtration Bottle in a beautiful Purple Glow colour.

This one was chosen by my daughter who has become a purple freak!.  As soon as she saw this bottle she knew it was for her. This is a 17 oz. bottle that is made of food-grade stainless steel. The unique thing is it actually has a built-in (but totally removable) plant-based filter. Like the double wall glass bottle this steel bottle does not sweat. It measures 3″ at the base and 9″ tall so it is substantial size. The curved design makes it easy to grip and the top actually has a carry handle. It is spill/leak proof and has flip-up drinking spout.  This fashionable bottle also comes with an extra straw that can be used when you don’t need to use the filter. Speaking of the filter, it will filter up to 100 gallons of water so you can use it for a very long time. The filter will remove 99.9% of Giardia and Cryptosporidium. These are the most commonly found parasites found in US lakes and streams.  Since we won’t be gathering any drinking water from these places it is not really an issue however, it also reduces any heavy metals like lead and toxic chemicals like chlorine, other sediments and dirt. Our tap water is really clean here in Ontario, but you can never be too careful. If there is a way to be sure to remove harmful elements then I am all for it. As mentioned the Aqua Vessel Insulated Filer Water Bottle is made from food grade stainless steel and is completely safe and eco-friendly.(They do not recommend this particular bottle for children under the age of 8 just because of the removable spout on straw top). It can be washed with warm soapy water and the tops, silicone spouts are under warranty for 1 full year.  All Eco Vessel Bottles have a limited warranty against manufacturer defects. Yet another sign of a great company that stands behind their products. At $36.95 this Eco Vessel is a little bit more money but still worth it in the long run.

Not only are Eco Vessels an environmentally friendly idea they are also a company that is socially conscious.  With each and every Eco Vessel that is sold they donate to a portion of their sales to “Water for People” They have even created custom Eco Vessels bottles with dedicated artists and donate 50% of the proceeds from those bottles.  They are constantly coming up with new designs to keep the momentum going.  I love a company that not only talks the talk but walks the walk.
