Mattel Issues Safety Alert to Consumers

Company Recalls Some Products With Possible Lead Paint Content TORONTO, Aug. 1 /CNW/ - Mattel, in cooperation with the United StatesConsumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), today announced a voluntary recallof select Fisher-Price(R) products including various figures and toysmanufactured by a single outside vendor between April 19, 2007 and July 6,2007, sold alone or as part of sets. Please refer to the product list belowfor full details on products that were affected in Canada. Consumers shouldstop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can causeadverse health effects. There have been no incidents reported in either theUnited States or Canada. Individual products and sets were sold at mass merchants and toy storesacross Canada from May through August 2007. Based on expert opinion, the safety risk is very low, and licking ortouching an affected toy will not cause a problem. That said, if there isevidence the child has chewed the paint off the toy, it is recommended thatparents speak with their pediatrician. Consumers should immediately take the product away from children andcontact Fisher-Price to arrange for the return of the product and to receive avoucher for a replacement toy of the consumer's choice, up to the value of thereturned product.
