The first recall was on children's storage bins that were sold in Ontario at the home improvement store Lowes from December 2007 to February 2008. The wooden bins have "scalloped edges" and came in either pastel green or pastel pink, a news release by the federal agency said. "Surface paint on the storage bins could contain excessive levels of lead," the statement said. "Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects." Sixty-five of the Taiwan-made bins have been sold in Canada. Consumers are asked to bring the bins to any Lowes for a refund, the news release said. Health Canada also issued a recall for Nintendo-themed lapel pins that have been sold since April 2004. The video game company stopped distributing the one- to two-inch pins in November 2007 due to high lead concerns, the news release said. The pins depict 12 popular video game characters including Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario, Mario Kart, Pikachu, Princess Peach, Samus, Starfox, Waluigi and Wario. The individual pins were given away as promotional items so it is unclear how many had been distributed. Parents who bought their children pyjamas of famous cartoon television character Dora the Explorer are also being urged to return the product to Sears Canada. The pyjamas - a white top with a picture of Dora and pink pants - sold in sizes to 2 to 3X from February to March 2008. They are being recalled because the sleeve openings are too large and "if a child is too close to a flame, the sleeve could catch fire." Three hundred pairs of the Chinese-made pyjamas have been sold in Canada. Health Canada reports that there have been no reports of illness or injury due to these recalls.
