Exclamation spam ecard warning

Don't know if anyoe else is getting alot of ecard spam lately, but my sources in the world of scams have been digging into them.

Some just lead to spam or scams but others have been found to be a bit more nasty

. DO NOT CLICK LINKS IN THEESE EMAILS!!!!!!

However, the gist of it is that many scammers are using different legit sounding company names and sending over from different websites! The subject line usually reads:

You've received a postcard from a colleague/neighbor/friend etc...

The body of the email will give you a URL to retrieve your Ecard but once clicked, it will do one of 4 things:

1) Install viruses on your hard drive that will wreak
havoc with your computer.

2) Install spyware or Trojans on your computer that will
scan your machine for personal and financial information.

3) Install adware that will bombard your desktop with
pop-up ads, launch adult websites or send phony ecards to
everyone in your address book -- cards that appear to have
come from YOU!

4) Turn your computer into a 'zombie' to help spam or attack
other computers.

Another tell-tale sign is that the email will usually end with "we hope you enjoy your awesome card!"

Some scammers are also getting their victims to accept and agree to EULA terms before agreeing (I mean, who reads that!) but the fine print makes it truly legal to do what they are doing!

Hope this helps, but it might be worth just letting everyone in your address book knowing about the scam - due to the affect this could have (even on you as a member of their address book!)
Your best bet would be to delete them without even opening them.

EDIT please check out these links!

From what I have been reading on other boards seems that someone has either harvested the addresses from facebook or yahooboards, and that they mainly having been coming up in Yahoo addies.

If you are on any yahoo boards, check to see if member lists are visable.. if they are, ask the moderator of the board to change it so that they are only available to the mods not to the public.
