LilJ's Tip Of the Day #1

Are you looking to be a little more green and save a little green hs back to school season? Here is a idea to help you be green and save green:

We all know that almost every year the kids talk us into buying them new binders for school when last years binders don't look all that bad. So this year why don't you have a little family time together and create a nice new binder from the old binders? Heres what you need:

~ Old Binder
~ Stretcy Book Covers (Probley avalibale @ your office supply store)
~ Decorations (Scrapbooking stickers and stuff works good)
~ Hot Glue
~ Yarn

What to do:
1. Gather supplys
2. Strech book cover over binder (Adds some nice color too)
3. Add decorations
4. Add hot glue (Extra support to help the decorations with the wear and tear of backpacks etc)
5. Add yarn. Hot glue one end of yarn to inside top of binder let dry, cut yarn off from ball but leave enought to wrap around front flap of binder 2-3 times, Wrap tightly around and glue the other end of the yarn down.(This makes a great place for your kids to slip in notes.

Notes: This is a good project for you and your kids to do as a family and or with there friends, You can also make each binder match whats its going to be used for. For example for a french class binder you could decorate it would french words ,the french flag etc.

Hope this counts in the contest

coupon savings- I find that the best way to really save using coupons is trading the coupons you don't use for others that you do use, and also joining coupon trains, I also trade starbucks, tim hortons gift cards for FPC as we don't have either here, have saved big this way so far this yr over $900

i have a very limited budget. i know what i need and have many stores to choose from.
what i do is compare prices one way and then shop in reverse.
i have dollar store, giant tiger, zellers, no frills and shoppers in a close area. not every store sells what i need but they also change their stock items too.
you get to know their regular prices and store layout to speed it up. they either post their ads near the front doors/windows or have a stand close to the front door for a quick glance.
if you get to know your prices then when you are in another area you will know if you find a bargain somewhere else.i really hate it when i buy something and its cheaper somewhere else even if its a few cents difference. it all adds up.

gardening tip- I found that watering your garden after the sun goes does helps alot better than watering in the mornings- this way the water has time to soak in not evaporate with the sun

To remove the soap scum ring that forms around the tub after someone has a bath, use regular shampoo to remove it, rub with a sponge or gloved fingers and rinse well

Storing sleeping bags over the winter? add about 1/2 cup of salt to the inside of the sleeping bags, zip up and shake well, leave overnight and the next day shake/vacuum out the salt,
and you will have absorbed any moisture and odors that have built up over the summer then store the sleeping bags and the next time you use them, they will be odorless

Default i heard about this tip, tried it, worked.

Ever burn the bottom of your pot & couldn't get it off? Pour a little Coke inside & warm it up on the burner for a short time. It will then wipe right off.

To remove the strong odor of onions or garlic from your hands, hold a stainless steel spoon in your hand while running water and rub your hands as though the spoon were soap. crazy but works
