Default Double Day Book Club

I am having so many problems with these people right now. Feb 27th 2007 I placed an order to join the "club" where they send me 5 books for a cheap price and I promise to buy something like at least 4 more in 2 years.

Well its now the end of Feb, 2 months later and I have not heard anything back. I sent their customer service an email, which they promptly replied stating I needed to send my full name, address, and order info so that they could confirm my order, since then, nothing. I have sent several emails, reposting all the needed info, and still nothing.

when I go home tonight I will be looking if they have already charged my credit card and will update here. In an age of customer service, you think that it wouldn't take a month to respond with a "thank you, we are looking into it"

Little irate today about this company

Joining the Double Day book club was one of the worst mistakes that I ever made. I love to read and own hundreds of books so it was only natural to want to join a book club. I got the free books and agreed to buy more, but was not impressed with their service. When you sign up it says that you can go on their website and agree to have the "book of the month" sent to you or not depending on whether it is a book you would like. I tried this and twice was sent the book that I had said I did not want. I sent the books back, and thought that would be enough. I then get a letter in the mail saying that my account is overdue and I owe for these books that I had sent back. I let them know that I sent them back, they said that it didn't matter, I owed for them as I had not declined them. I replied that I had in fact declined the books and received them anyway, and did not owe for them because I had sent them back. I never received a reply after this, but kept getting account past due notices in the mail. Eventually I paid the account out because I was tired of arguing with them about it. I now tell everyone I know that this is the worst book club in the world to join, to much hassle and headache. I am not the only one who has had problems with them, other members of my family joined with pretty much the same results. Beware!

The company who owns and operates Doubleday BookClub, also operate MysteryGuild, MilitaryBookClub, Quality Paperback Books and numerous other membership "clubs". Personally I've had at least one membership with each of the above named and have never had any problems.

Books always arrive on time, there is an extensive selection to choose from, and they extend premium offers every few months. I've had no problems returning books that I didn't order (selections of the month... after I had "forgotten" to go online and decline them) and they didn't even charge me the shipping. I've also always cancelled a membership immediately following the fulfillment of my commitment and they always get me back with a great offer a few months down the road.

HOWEVER... I've heard horror stories of credit cards not being credited for returned shipments for MONTHS on end! SOOO... how do you avoid THAT problem???????

DON'T PAY WITH CREDIT CARD!!!! Always wait for your invoice and pay either through online banking, or by mailing a cheque or money order out to them.

honeycombz I had the same problems as you mentioned.. They also sent me an email asking if I was sure I placed the order.. thank GOODNESS I save confirmation emails and told them that I clicked the bottom of my confirmed order on contact information and their page is what it took me to.. She then wanted me to send a copy of my order confirmation which I did.. I explained to her it had been 10 weeks.. She then checked into it and said my order was denied. I was FURIOUS!!! I was a member of theirs before and I never ever had this problem... I emailed her back and told her how very upset I was with them. That my payments were always on time.. that I ordered more than the required to extra books you were to purchase to fulfill this offer. The fact they basically ignored my order and then when they got my confirmed email rejected my order.. I told them I will NEVER EVER deal with them again and thought it very ignorant on their part to have me wait on this time and then reject me??
A week later they emailed me again and wanted me to send them a copy of the books I ordered which was if they had looked was on the first confirmed email they sent me. Needless to say I ignored their email and did not respond back...

I might add I never pay for books ahead of time.. I wait for the bill and then pay through online banking.

I signed up through pigsback 3 months ago (1000 bonus points) and I got a confirmation that my application had been received and I should be getting my books within 2-4 weeks. I sent an email for followup a month later and I was told to provide all my information again TWICE and I never got an email back.
I sent them a nasty letter since they keep asking me for my info but they are not replying. (no response to that either).

I have also been a loyal customer in the past and when they can't even find my info now??

came across this again and was reading all the responses. I had signed up with a credit card and I do believe that they never charged the account. I only ever got the first email to my response. since then I have unsubscribed to their mailing list after a very nasty email. I am glad that some people have had good dealings with them. I had done this through snap dollar and got a credit from them for signing up with the company so it was not all bad...lol.

i would have liked to receive the books since they were intersting to me. I shall not be trying this company again though.
