Paying with my privacy for Facebook Freebies howdy CFS fans !Aaargh!
I just had to complain!! Though my computer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't on Facebook (crashy smashy - another issue) I do occasionally get through....
I HATE HATE HATE that so many companies offer free samples etc, then I get a pop up box saying this company needs access to my friends folder, my personal information, etc etc........ WHY? The fact that not all of them do it shows it isn't needed.
I just got an email from Olay saying I could send a friend a referral to Olay's Facebook site so she could get a free gift if her birthday was in June, July or August. I clicked, planning on referring a friend who's birthday's in July....
and THERE'S THAT POP-UP WINDOW saying Olay requests access to all my Facebook files!
I am SO tired of this! Am I overly anal about my privacy? Does this bother anyone else? I NEVER go through with a freebie or promo if I get this pop-up box.
grrrrrrrrr....... she really would have appreciated a little Olay gift too...
I'll just have to send her something WAY MORE SPECIALLER!!!! ;P

I don't mind... but I don't put anything private on facebook anyways, and have a "fake" account with fake friends, so if they don't like the "spamming" they can delete me

That is what I see all of people do on here, is that. its a smart idea, than that way you aren't overwelming you personal friends either, this way you can have an account for people online that you have similar interests in such as the freebie world.

Ironside2 I't's just another way to spam the internet users. I think it's also a way to get around the do not call list for the telephone too. It allows companys to say look they want our telemarketers to call them or spam their e-mails etc, because look they've contacted us.
Why if a company wants you to buy their product can't they just say here give us a try and here's a coupon for you as our way of saying thanks for useing our product.
I think we're being used as a new publisity tool for companys or at the very least and advertizing tool.

Aha! I have an old dud facebook account that I opened before I opened my real one to test out "the facebook thing"! It has a fake name and no info and no friends.
Excellent idea folks! I have just used my old fake account to get my free skinny cow ice cream coupon and submit for my free Vichy sample!
Yay!
I have my privacy settings (on my real account) dialed up "high", so everytime a company wants access I get a pop up and an "Allow/Don't Allow" option.
Perhaps that's why not everyone is seeing this. If your privacy setting is more relaxed, perhaps they just get access automatically (Yikes)!!
It's sad, isn't it? These companies WANT to get their products in our homes and WANT us to think of them in good terms - but they are so intrusive that we regard them with resentment and have to "work around" their demands, just so....
..................... well, so we can GIVE them our name, address, etc and try out their products! LOL!! Seems so farcical! Like an episode of Fawlty Towers or something!

BASIIIIILLL!!!!! Have you been on Facebook again?!?!?

Thanks for sharing your advise to all of you. I will do a different account for freebies.
I did click on something the other day and now I receive a lot of stuff in my facebook account from skinny cow. I never though this co was going to send me all that junk and questions.

I usually just not let the apps post to my wall or I only allow until I've entered the contest then I revoke publishing rights, or if I have to put in any info I have an email address just for contests and as for the ads, I just use ad block, I never see an add on my facebook page
On the good side, I've gotten goodies from facebook like my essie nail polish

I also have a second facebook account that I use for facebook freebies. So much better than putting my friends at risk.

I am going to start a freebie facebook account. I hate that they always ask for your friends.

The second facebook account for freebies is totally the way to go! We should have a spot to add "freebies facebook" accounts, so we could join each others as friends, so our friends lists are bigger and look a little more realalistic. (not sure if that matters to the companies or not) My freebies account only has 2 friends in it. Same as my twitter, I don't use twitter but I signed up for it to qualify for some freebies things. Got me 1 whole follower.
