| Diva Beaver | Hey there all, I have kind of a weird question. A friend of mine has 3 chihuahuas and a boston terrier. They are great little dogs. The chihuahuas are puppies. None of them older then about 6 months. He is an older fella so I go over and help out with bathing them and so on. Lately we have been running into a little problem and no matter what I try it doesnt seem to make a difference. The problem is that we are in the middle of training the dogs...its hard to do with 3 puppies (the boston terrier is already trained as she is 3). The puppies though keep wanting to eat their *droppings*. Gross I know. We did quite a bit of research on this lately and found a few solution. One was feeding them pineapple, we tried that and it worked for a couple of days. Now they are back at it again. Another option was that their food was lacking nutrients. We checked the food and with a vet and the food is great for them. I am only asking this here because I dont really belong to any other forums on the net and I have already tried talking to everyone that I know and no one seems to know what could be causeing this. They all get plenty of attention and love. They have tons of space to run and play in. They get fed very well and are allowed very adequate time outdoors. The weird thing is though...they will only try to eat each others *droppings* and not the boston terriers. Its weird. But if anyone has any advice or knows of anything that we could possibly try it would be greatly appriciated. We are all out of ideas as of now and are pretty much willing to try anything. The last idea that was given to us we never tried. It was to sprinkle cayenne pepper or some hot sauce or something of that nature, on the *droppings* after they deficate....well...needless to say that with watching 4 dogs it is very hard to watch the where and when to be able to do that! lol. Again, any help would be greatly appriciated. |

| Diva Beaver | My mom (who fancies herself quite a "dog person" and has had three New Skete Sherpherds over the last 15 years) said that when her current doggy was a puppy she had this problem and was able to manage it by making a loud noise every time the pup would approach the poop. In a short time, the dog would not attempt to munch on the poop for fear of being startled. She said it was very effective for her. She also said that a lot of dogs are just into poop eating. Some more than others. I know it took us a while to get our Lab to stay out of the litter box. Gross! Hope this helps...?

That is an awsome idea and we will be trying it. Its not as bad now since we started feeding them each a little bit of pineapple everyday...it seems to keep them off it a bit but one of them (the one that I am totally addicted to of course..lol) seems to still want it. lol...not as bad....but I am gonna try that loud noise thing because he is sketchy sometimes anyways so maybe the noise will make him stop...amazing I never even thought of it! Thanks again soooo much!!! | |
