Today I happened across this by chance:
I made little cupcakes for my four's class... but they're not to have too much icing so I used it sparingly and added sprinkles. That didn't look very tempting though, so I stuck them back in the oven and it all sort of turned into a lovely looking glaze with sprinkles on top.
Watch your goodies closely when you make your icing glaze though... when it starts to melt it'll all run away unless you take it back out of the oven!
