Default Apple Pie - Without Apple?

Ingredients:

Filling
2 cups - Water
3/4 cup - White Sugar
2 teaspoons - Cream of Tartar
30 – Whole Ritz
1 tablespoon - Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon - Cinnamon
Topping
1 cup – Crushed Ritz (approx. 25)
½ cup – Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon – Cinnamon
1/3 cup – Melted Butter
Directions:

1.) In a sauce-pan bring Water, White Sugar, and Cream of Tartar to a boil.

2.) Reduce heat and drop in “WHOLE” Ritz, one at a time.

3.) Simmer for 5 minutes.

4.) Put in an “UNCOOKED” Pie Shell.

5.) Sprinkle with Lemon Juice and Cinnamon.

6.) In a separate bowl combine “CRUSHED” Ritz, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, and Butter.

7.) Gently spread this over the mixture in the Pie Shell.

8.) Bake at 400° for 15 minutes, and then reduce to 350° for another
15-20 minutes.

Enjoy! You won't believe how good it tastes - and no apple!

Can you tell the difference - I can't tell the difference.

This sounds different... does it taste good.... is it for some kind of diet? I'll give it a try, didn't know you could use ritz crackers for something like this.

This recipe was developed during the war by the test kitchens of the folks who make Ritz Crackers as an answer to rationing of fresh produce during the War. You will notice also no milk, or eggs in the recipe - for the same reason.

It is delicious. Ask anyone who has lived thru WWII.

You can also use green tomatoes instead of apple in a pie

I used to make the ritzy apple pie all the time - it is great and tastes just like the real deal - no apples to peel, either ;)

This was a staple when we went to visit Grandma. It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I learned how to make it and now my kids love it also!
