    So, Let's Start Talking Holidays!!

    howdy CFS fans !
Hi Everyone, I have 2 girls and their birthdays are the 7th and 11th of December -- ya I know, we're geniuses ... anyhow, for this reason I always get started with the shopping EARLY (sometimes in June!). I'm in full birthday/Christmas mode, and thought it might be a nice (?) change to start getting 'festive' here!
One thing I find interesting is hearing what folk have for their big meal. Either with the turkey, or instead of the turkey, or ways of cooking the turkey (um, I think I'm hungry - no breaky yet!).
Last year my brother-in-law barbecued a huge prime rib roast ... it was amazing, but I still had to cook a turkey - it's a traditional to me as the tree

my youngest daughter was born Dec 3rd and i wouldmake sure the house was decorated for her birthday parties. we would put her birthday presents under the tree.

i always made a roasted turkey with all the trimmings for Christmas eve and we would go for more turkey at my mom's. Now that i am a vegetarian i make a tofukey. tastes really good.

Traditional Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Steamed veggies. Lots and lots of baked goods. Don't decorate until December though. I hate having stuff up too long. My neighbours put up their decorations today, I think it is way too early-don't want to have to "dust" the tree. LOL

Well.. It's that time of the year. Didn't even get to begin Halloween before the stores crammed it down our throats. I have some gifts done but usually i'm a last minute shopper when I can afford gifts. Usually every year we have a big get together with my mothers side of the family. this year will be minus my Grandmother as she is in a much better place now, we have another family dinner with just my family.

Usually I get money for gifts because nobody knows what i like or takes an interest, but this year I think they got the message to get me ANYTHING Harley Davidson related as I've plastered something about Harley Davidson through out my Facebook a few times a month. It's worth a shot right?

PS. Didn't mean to bring anything down. I would just like to celebrate one holiday BEFORE the stores start filling up with bright cheery holiday vibes. Even the Americans still have to celebrate Thanksgiving first.

We usually do the traditional Turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, a couple of different cooked veggies, a couple of salads, devilled eggs and lots of different snacks/desserts. I wanted to try something different last Turkey day, so I stir-fried shrimp in a peanutty Thai sauce as an extra side dish. It was a hit. I wish I could remember the exact sauce I used. I know I got it from IGA though.

We always get our outside stuff out at the beginning of November to avoid the snow. Mayes the task go 10X faster.

I love traditional Christmas. My DD has a Dec 11 bday and we decorate upstairs and leave everything in the basement until after her birthday. I agree with the last person, for us turkey is as classic and traditional for us as the tree.

I have started listening to Christmas music... I find it quite perky and uplifting... I know you'll all hate me for this... but all we need now is more snow!

Amazon.com and Superpoints are paying for our gifts! Gotta get that stuff orderd!

We have turkey every year for Christmas along with potatoes, stuffing, lots of veggies, cranberry sauce, gravy, and all that good christmas dinner stuff For desert there is always a few different treats, but we always have plumb pudding and hard sauce.

We always have a bacon and eggs brunch after opening presents on Christmas morning as well. So much food in one day! lol

Oh I'm so excited about Christmas! I already got my boyfriend his presents as well as a gift for my dad. Still need something for my mom, sister and best friend. We also do a get-together with the larger family and do a generic gift swap game so I need to get that too. Totally stuck for ideas for all of those!

For dinner we usually do a Roast turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrot and turnip mash, brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes with lots of gravy. Honestly though, I love the left-overs when my mom makes Bubble and Squeak from the potatoes, carrot and turnip. Mmmm!

I started my shopping for Christmas last week Did it online and got it all a few days later Feels good to have it started It's our turn this year to host christmas so I will be doing lots of christmas baking I got a recipe from anoter member on this site a few years back when we had a thread where we posted holiday recipes to share. It was for cookies and OMG they are so good and my family has become obsessed and ask me when I'm going to make them again I usually do a double batch and cut them out with the cookie cutters and decorate them with icing

Well has been a crappy last couple of months,,2 deaths in the family.
Our 3 daughter all live in the same Alberta town as my sister (whom lost her husband last month) So we will be going there for Xmas again this yr.
The girls always count on me still to do the Xmas dinner, and we have the traditional Turkey dinner with all the fixin's
I too have done my Xmas shopping already, did it online, My hubby and I just buy for our grandkids. For our daughters we like to help them out in other ways,,for example, last yr for our youngest dd,, we bought her 2 winter tires for her car,,she paid for the other 2, for our middle dd, we stayed at their house so we ended up at grocery store and paid for them all about $300 and for our oldest,,we paid her hydro bill...
I actually am looking forward to Christmas,,it is time our Family spent some Cheery time together,,

We do the whole turkey, potatoes, dressing, gravy meal. Two of my kids birthdays are coming up before Christmas. I've started my shopping for awhile now, mostly online.
