Abandonded cats

I come to the library to use the computer and there is a building beside the library that is home to alot of abandonded cats. I bring along some catfood to feed them and found a lady who feeds them regularily. She has a second job just to pay for their food and vet bills. I am very concerned that people have no conscience and care very little about animals that they can throw them away when they no longer want them.

this is true. So many people dont realize how much the cat is going to cost, they just want a cute kitten. Then when it grows up and gets pregnant or whatever they abandon it and the kittens... The guy that lives behind me has so many cats I'd say theres about 40-50 roaming around from his place it started with one or two Im sure then kittens and then the kittens kittens and so on. I rescued a litter of kittens from one of his cats, and my other neighbour took the mother and got her fixed now she has a good home and the kittens all got homes (I kept this one). People think cats are disposable, its sick. If your going to have a cat get it fixed.

I have 3 rescue cats myself. One was taken from a downtown bachelor apartment which she shared with about 15 other cats. She was a year old, pregnant and nursing another set of kittens - this would have been her life if she hadn't been rescued.

Turtle it looks like your beautiful rescue kitten got the mouse on your computer LOL.

Joyful - some vet offices/pet food suppliers will actually give discounts to people who feed strays/abandoned cats. A friend of mine always had food available for animals dropped off in her area.

I found while vacationing in South Carolina that the county actually captures feral cats, neuters them and then re-releases. They are unable to be tamed but this way the numbers won't increase.

i have 9 yes nine homeless cats living with me plus my own two cats and two abandonned dogs
i had put a thread up earlier looking for coupons to help with the food cat litter and the billion dollars for the vet but no response.........i guess you are right no one cares

last year (2006) we adopted a rescued kitten and now she has grown big,fat and lazy but i still love her! and would never think of letting her go!

I love animals, all kinds... we have a fare turnover in our home, cause my daughter will bring home the injured, and we fix 'em up and let them go. Now there's the catlady who lives accross the street... she has aprox 30 cats... but all are wild she throws food out to them, and that's all... which too is not fair to the animals, they are un approchable, dirty, and most sick looking. I personally don't have the $ to get them all checked out or to get their shots, and no one want's to come out to get them. It's a shame, all these homeless cats, and the risk of desease they carry... My daughter knows not to approch those cats, only for her safety.

Lynnmm I wish I was able to send you coupons,,, the problem is I myself have 4 dogs and 2 cats (all but one were rescue) I would hate to figure out what I pay a month to feed them (dogs especially--2 medium sized and 2 large breeds.) I live in the country, small community and when people heard I was the lady who would take in strays or unwanted pets, you would not believe the calls I was recieving. Did end up taking a rabbit last year and my husband finally put his foot down. I still get the calls,,, now I try really hard to find good homes , it's he only thing I can do. I've always said if I win the lotto, first thing I would do was set up an animal shelter.

My cats have all been recue cats and all really good pets with great personalities once they had settle down with us.

You can only imagine how many stray cats we have living in my area alone... They are breeding and this summer I saw lots of baby kittens.. It's crazy around here.
