Hi Sherbear,
No, you don't have to be a certain weight to have a breast reduction done. My daughter is overweight, although she is active and eats very well. The surgeon did have to weigh her during her consultation, but he did not mention it at all- he simply wrote down the number on her file. I was present during this consultation, and he took down her basic health information- height, weight, smoker y/n?, taking any meds, etc., measured her bust, and then went through the procedure with her, asked her if she had any questions and gave her an idea of what the surgery incision would look like.
The consultation can last anywhere from 10-30 mins, depending on the amount of questions you have and the information you need to give the surgeon. He told us that once he sent off the form to OHIP, it would take approx. one month for it to be processed. Sure enough, after one month my daughter got a call from the surgeon's office that the form went through and that she could schedule her surgery date. All in all, the whole thing went by quickly, but I'm not sure if there aren't peak wait times throughout the year- she was lucky in that she got to schedule her surgery date two months ahead from the time she was notified of the OHIP approval. Depending on the demand for your particular surgeon, the surgery date will be determined by his/her availability and it may be anywhere from two to 6 months after you have been notified of approval. It is definitely a worthwhile wait, and my daughter is so happy with her results.
I hope this information helped you.
