Angry My message to employers about the umemployment rate

As I was making my cup of coffee this morning I heard on the radio that the Unemployment rate in Alberta is the highest in the country, with Calgary being the city with the most people looking for work. As a Calgarian I have seen this city grow at an amazingly fast rate. People are flocking here, the land of opportunity. So that being said, it is understandable that we would have a higher unemployment rate, with all these new people. The problem is, that the jobs are out there, infact they are everywhere. There are help wanted signs plastered everywhere you go. There should be no reason that a person cant find a job. It should be simple. Thats why the people are flocking here...cause its so easy to find a job. So why are these people still looking for work????

Well its simple. If you have a " Help Wanted" sign in the window of your business, there is one golden rule that you need to remember when looking for a new employee. Try paying them!!! The wages that are being offered in this city is what the problem is. People can not be self sufficient on the wages being offered so they dont take the job and keep looking for another. Nobody is going to work for you if they cant even pay thier rent with the wages they are making. The cost of living in the city has sky rocketed but the wages are the same as they were in the early 90's. The working class people need to make money too, not just the employers.

Look at Walmart, for example. They cant even get the teenagers to apply for a job anymore because even the kids know that they could go get a job at Wendy's flipping burgers and easily make 3$ more an hour. Isnt that telling you something, and Walmart is a Multi billion dollar company. Now Wendys on the other hand is still struggling cause they cant get enough employees to keep the store open. They have to close the doors and lose money cause they dont have the workers. The people are out there that want to work but you have to pay them. There are more teens looking for jobs, as their parents arent making enough money to provide for the "Extra's", but you have to pay them.

In the end the same old saying works so employers listen up....
Money Talks and Bull Chit Walks!!!!!

I live in Red Deer, AB and we have the same thing going on here. Tons of people looking for jobs and tons of jobs out there, but none that pay enough to live on in our economy. I work in a casino in a management position (hourly rate with no tips) and I find it hard to make ends meet.

It is a sad state of affairs when stores/restaurants/etc are closing early due to staff shortages but there are still many homeless/working poor out there that are having problems because wages are too low to make a difference. Why bust your ba**s for something that isn't going to help your situation (or an employer who treats you like crap). Hence people don't take these low paying jobs and keep looking for something better.

I was recently talking to someone who was down visiting from Grande Prairie. They said that although people seem to be making decent money there, many are still living in cars because there is no housing available. This is another problem that needs to be addressed. Lack of housing, or affordable housing is something that is compounded by the overall problem created by the low wages/high population surge. I mean, c'mon, basement suites that are renting on average for $800 - $1000/mo?? What the he**....

**shaking head in disbelief**

Sigh.....
