(Main) Green Bean and Mushroom Casserole

Ingredients
3/4 Pound(s) Green beans
6 Tablespoon(s) Butter or margarine
1 Large Onion, peeled and chopped
1 1/2 Cup(s) Mushrooms, thinly sliced
2 Tablespoon(s) Flour
1 Cup(s) Milk
1/2 Cup(s) Grated cheddar cheese
1/2 Teaspoon(s) Salt
1/4 Teaspoon(s) Pepper
1/2 Cup(s) Dry bread crumbs
1/4 Cup(s) Blanched almonds, slivered
4 Ounce(s) Can waterchestnuts, drained and sliced
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Butter a 1 quart casserol dish.
Leave beans whole and cook in salted water until tender.
Drain and set aside.
In a saucepan melt 5 tablespoons of butter, add onion and mushrooms.
Cook about 5 minutes longer until onion is soft.
Add the flour and mix with vegetables.
Mix in the milk, cheese , salt and pepper.
Cook another 5 minutes until sauce thickens.
Place the cheese mixture, the beans and waterchestnuts in the casserol dish and combine.
Top with almonds and bread crumbs.
Bake for 20 minutes, uncovered
