Still looking for that last-minute Father's Day Gift? Well, time is quickly running out and if you are like me you have no idea what the heck to buy. Every year I struggle to find new and different gift ideas for my Dad. This is especially hard for me because his Birthday was just in April.
Today I am going to share with you a brand new product I just had the pleasure of discovering.
Introducing the SAFE SPACE #5900D by Master Lock.
This handy little portable personal safe is one of Master Locks newest products and has just been launched into the Canadian marketplace. It is currently available at Walmart and will launch into Staples stores sometime in July/11.
When I was first offered the opportunity to product test this item I really wasn't sure when or how I would use it, but I was certainly curious. Master Lock has a long-standing reputation for producing innovative and quality items, so I knew I had to see their latest invention.
Last week my new Master Lock Safe Space arrived and discovered it was a little bigger than I originally thought it would be. It is approximately 24 cm long by 14 cm wide and about 6 cm deep. It is not huge by any means and you wouldn't want it much bigger or it wouldn't be very portable. Another thing that I noticed immediately was how heavy it was for its size. Weight generally leads me to believe a product is well constructed and will be durable. So now was time to product test. My daughter came up with a fabulous idea to put the Master Lock 5900D to work. She and her girlfriends were heading off for a day of fun at our local water park. I had commented earlier in the day that she would have to call us when she needed a ride home. She said I can't take my phone with me because there is no place to hide it and I don't want it stolen. 
"I can use your new little safe!" "Then I can take some extra money too and not worry about hiding it in the bottom of a chip bag like last time"
We watched the video of how to set our own combination numbers on the Master Lock website and found it very easy to do. We also found out that you can register your combination at MasterLockVault.com. Just in case you are one of those people who are bound to forget your numbers.
So the day of my daughter's trip arrived and I warned her not to lose the new personal safe. Of course she just rolled her eyes at me and said if I do I will lose my phone and everything. The rest of this review is her account of how the Master Lock Personal Safe 5900D performed when put to the test. She arrived at the water park and proceeded to the entrance where you must go through a security check. They look through your coolers and bags, just to make sure you are not bringing anything harmful into the park. The security guard opened my daughter's beach bag and spotted the Master Lock personal safe. He immediately commented and asked her what is this? The safe was unlocked so she took it out of her bag to show him. She explained that it was a personal safe to keep her belongings in. The security guard said, "wow, that is cool" " It is a great idea since a lot of our lockers have been broken into lately." She and her friends proceeded into the park and found a picnic table to set up camp for the day. She looked around trying to decide what she could secure the safe to. The picnic bench was an all in one construction with metal bars coming up under the seats from the middle of the table. She released the security cable from the safe and wrapped it around one of the metal legs. She was surprised to find that the cable was actually long enough to do this. (she at first thought it was going to be too short) She placed the safe on top of the seat and opened it. She inserted her cell phone and her money. One of her girlfriends then asked if she could put her expensive sunglasses in there too, so they wouldn't get stolen. The glasses fit into the safe as well with no problem. She quickly and easily closed the safe, scrambled the combination lock, threw her towel on top and ran to the water park. Every time they stopped for a snack or to warm up (since it was darn cold out ) she would check that the Master Lock safe was still there. She checked that it was still locked and secure and admitted that after checking it a few times throughout the day she just didn't worry about it anymore. She felt confident knowing her phone, money and her friend's sunglasses were safe. She also found that the few times she opened the safe to check her phone messages or grab money, it was very easy to operate. Only once did she have a problem aligning the numbers and that was because she was at a funny angle and couldn't see it properly. At the end of the day the safe came back home as well as everything that was stored in it. However there was a few less dollars than when she started out with. LOL
All in all the Master Lock Safe Space Personal Safe passed my daughter's test. I believe this new item will be a welcome security solution for our family. This safe could be used in so many different ways. Take it to the office, camping to the gym, the beach or even use it just at home for extra security and peace of mind. Use it to store your money, credit cards, passports, MP3 Player, cell phone, camera, gaming devices, keys, sunglasses or anything else you want to keep safe and secure while your on the go.
The 5900D is available in either a gray colour or white shown above and retails for $24.99 Canadian. As mentioned before it is currently available at Walmart and will be available at Staples stores this July. I think this personal safe would make a wonderful Father's Day gift, but I am not willing to give mine up and re-gift it. I just might have to make a trip to Walmart before Sunday.

I learned Master Lock’s laminated padlocks began production in a single room in a small commercial building in Milwaukee, WI. The room consisted of a drill press, grinder, punch press, and five employees.

When i think Master Lock …. the first thing that comes to mind is locks for your suitecase/shed. I was shocked to find out that Master Lock has Master Lock Vault, which is a safe and secure password protector. I knew the commercials with the gun firing on a padlock was famous but
“The first commercial, in which a Master Lock padlock foils a bullet fired from a .44 Magnum pistol, was shown in 1967 on the NBC Today show with High Downs, and the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.”

Apparently, the founder of MasterLock “advised Houdini on trick places to hide padlock keys between his fingers and under his tongue during stage shows”
