Thanksgiving Candy Turkey Favors

Although it seems like summer is just ending, the Thanksgiving season is already upon us. This year, why not enjoy some fun and frugal crafts with your kids that you can use to adorn your holiday table? These Thanksgiving Candy Turkey Favors are the perfect craft if you want something fast, festive, and of course, fun! They are a cinch for children to make, and you can set one at each place setting at your holiday table. Take a look below for directions on how to make your own.

DIY Supplies

  • Reese’s Pieces
  • Plastic baggie,
  • Assorted colour pipe cleaners
  • Google Eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Brown Pom Pom

Your local dollar store, Michaels craft store, or retail store will have these items available rather inexpensively. You can use any candy you wish, of course. We liked the fall colours in Reese’s candy mix, for our example, so it was a great choice. Feel free to use fall-coloured M&M’s or any other candy your family enjoys.

Directions:

1. It is easiest to create the head and feet of the turkey first. To do this, take one yellow pipe cleaner and cut it down to about 2 inches. Please take a few smaller pieces of the same colour pipe cleaner and create talons by twisting them around the bottom of the longer pipe cleaner.
2. Next, create the head by attaching two google eyes to the brown pom. This will be your head. You can use a small red piece to create the gobbler, make a “V,” and attach it to the base of the pom with glue. You can also create a beak by gluing on an orange “V” to the face.
3. You now want to fill your baggie about 1/3 of the way full of candy bits. Twist to secure closed. This will be your main body. Snip a small piece of pipe cleaner to wrap around the neck of the bag to secure it.
4. Apply some glue to the back or bottom of the head. Press firmly to the front of the now full baggie to secure. See the turkey taking shape?
5. Now, just twist the bottom corners of the baggie. Twist a leg pipe cleaner around each snuggly. You will see your turkey now formed and ready to sit up on its own!
