Walmart Canada: Credit Card Breach

Walmart Canada is investigating a possible credit card data breach.

There are as many as 60 000 customers that can be affected.

Walmart Canada’s Photocentre website is the place that was compromised. If you or someone you know has used the Photocentre in the past and used your credit card to make a purchase, please be advised that you should monitor your card’s transactions very closely. If you see something that looks out of the ordinary, you are to alert your financial institution immediately.

For now the Photocentre website is down(disabled by Walmart Canada) until all this is sorted out.

Please note; for now Walmart.ca and Walmart.com websites have not been affected by this latest data breach.

Walmart Canada will be implementing an Online Grocery Shopping option to it’s customers starting on July 7th, 2015.

Ottawa residents will be the very first to try this new service with 11 stores taking part. Six locations on July 7th and another 5 to be added on July 21st, 2015

Customers can place orders through Walmart.ca, pay a $3.00 fee, and park at a selected Walmart location. Orders should be received and loaded in approximately five minutes. (The orders must be a minimum $50 and made at least the previous day.)

If this online grocery pick up service is popular and they see a demand for it, you can expect them to roll it out in other cities across Canada as well.

What do you think of this new strategy from Walmart? Is it convenient or just more of a hassle? Would you be interested in taking advantage of this online grocery shopping service if it became available in your town?

We have some more not-so-exciting news to report from Walmart Canada.

Starting on April 2nd, 2015, they will be implementing shipping charges to consumers.

  1. They will be offering free shipping on all orders of $50 or more.
  2. All orders below $50 will be charged a $4.97 shipping fee.
  3. If you are living in a remote area of Canada or are purchasing a larger item, shipping charges will vary accordingly.

I guess we will have to get used to the fact that changes are needed to the overall shipping policy at Walmart.
