Food Network

Food Network Canada

In 1993, the network was founded by Reese Schonfeld as Television Food Network. It began as a single-channel cable network that mainly aired reruns of cooking shows from PBS and other networks. Over the years, TFN grew in popularity as more people discovered its unique programming style—instructional cooking tips, international cuisine, and occasional celebrity chef appearances.

E.W. Scripps Company acquired TFN. As part of the acquisition, TFN underwent a major revamp and changed its name to Food Network. This revamp included an increase in original programming with shows like Emeril Live (starring Emeril Lagasse), 30 Minute Meals (starring Rachael Ray), and Iron Chef America (based on Japan’s Iron Chef show). These shows were almost immediately successful and helped propel the channel to even greater popularity.

Today, Food Network is one of the most successful channels on television, with millions of viewers tuning in every week to catch their favourite cooking shows or pick up some new recipes from celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay or Ina Garten. In addition to original programming, Food Network also produces several special events throughout the year, such as The Great American Baking Show, Chopped Tournament of Champions, and Holiday Baking Championship, which adds even more variety to their already impressive lineup!
