    About BabyBox.org

The Finnish government created an incentive grant for new parents who wanted to visit the doctor. This program was first offered in 1935 and expanded during World War II due to its necessity as Finland had some of Europe’s highest infant mortality rates. It came complete with everything from birth certificates to winter clothing kits, including cardboard bassinets.

The Finnish tradition continues today, with 40% choosing cash over baby products. What’s most important is that underlying beliefs remain in providing: infant care education and access to health services; we all have the essential means to thrive–this was a great jumping-off point! Baby Box Canada was formed as not for profit by brands who wanted to bring this box tradition across Canada while initially setting their sights on 5 thousand boxes just like they did back home ( Finland)
