    About Lipton

Lipton is a famous tea brand and was also a chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom before Argyll Foods acquired it. The brand is named after its founder Thomas Lipton. In 1871 Lipton used his savings to launch his store in Glasgow, Scotland.

By the 1880s, the business had expanded to over 200 stores. In 1929, one of the companies merged with Home and Colonial Stores, Galbraith & Parks, Vyes & Boroughs, Maypole Dairy Company and Templeton to form a large food group with over 3,000 shops.

Lipton’s became a large chain of supermarkets in small towns before Allied’s acquisition by Argyll Foods in the 1980s when it was rebranded as Presto. Lipton’s leading brands are Lipton Iced Tea and Lipton Yellow Label. Other products include the Lipton pyramid range in North America and Europe and Lipton Milk Tea in East Asia. Lipton Linea was launched in Western Europe in 2008.
