About & History of Gerber Baby Food
As a Canadian mom, I know how tough it can be to choose the right food for our little ones- especially baby food. When my kids were small, Gerber baby food had always been a staple in our home. It was trusted, affordable, and always available. So, when I discovered the fascinating history behind this iconic baby food brand, I couldn’t wait to share it with other Canadian moms out there.
The beginning of Gerber – Gerber was founded in the 1920s by Dorothy Gerber, whose baby daughter was struggling with eating solid food. On a whim, she decided to puree some vegetables and strain them through a sieve, which her daughter eagerly devoured. Seeing an opportunity to help other parents in the same situation, Dorothy started making and selling pureed baby food under the Gerber brand, quickly becoming a hit in the United States.
The iconic Gerber baby logo – You may be familiar with the baby face that adorns every Gerber baby food label – that’s the Gerber baby. The baby face belongs to Ann Turner Cook, who was just four months old when her picture was chosen from a contest held by Gerber. Today, the Gerber baby logo is recognized worldwide and symbolizes trust and quality in baby food brands.
Then in the 1990s, Gerber introduced a line of organic baby food products, catering to parents who wanted healthier options for their little ones. Today, Gerber even offers an online tool to help parents create personalized meal plans for their babies based on age, dietary needs, and preferences.
