Founder: William Booth
The founder of this organization was William Booth. He was born in Nottingham, England, on April 10, 1829. He started this organization in 1878.
William Booth said that one night, preaching the Gospel, he had a vision of great multitudes of people going to Hell because there were few Christians to tell them about Christ’s love. This touched his heart and made him want to do whatever he could to save them from going to Hell.
William Booth began preaching about Jesus’ love and salvation to the poor, hungry, homeless, and addicted to alcohol or other things. He also started a home for women who were prostitutes because he wanted to help them get out of that lifestyle.
