Even though Taco Bell is an American chain of fast-food restaurants, it is also trendy in Canada.
Glen Bell, the founder of this restaurant chain, opened a hot dog stand, believe it or not. He called it Bell’s Drive-In in San Bernardino, California, in 1946. Bell was 23 years old at the time.
Taco Bell was founded by two entrepreneurs with a vision for a revolutionary restaurant concept. Glen Bell had owned several hot dog stands in California, while his partner John Galardi had owned several hamburger shops. Together they decided to create something entirely new; a Mexican-style drive-in serving tacos, burritos, and other Mexican dishes. The first Taco Bell opened in 1962 in Downey, California; the rest is history.
The Expansion to Canada
It wasn’t until 1981 that Taco Bell ventured north of the border into Canada. That year, TFS Holdings Inc., then known as Taco Foods Systems Inc., opened its first Canadian location in Belleville, Ontario (across from CFB Trenton). This marked a critical moment for Canadian fans of this delicious food and franchising.
This company was founded on March 21, 1962. There are approximately 6500 locations to date and growing.
