Taco Bell

Taco Bell, an American chain of fast-food restaurants, has gained popularity in Canada. Glen Bell, the founder of this restaurant chain, established his first hot dog stand, Bell’s Drive-In, in San Bernardino, California, in 1946 at 23.

Two visionary entrepreneurs with ambitious goals crafted a revolutionary restaurant concept. Glen, who already had several successful hot dog stands in California, partnered with John Galardi, who had achieved similar success with various hamburger outlets. They aimed to establish an innovative and daring concept – a Mexican drive-in offering different Mexican dishes, which included burritos, tacos, and more.

Opening its first branch in 1962 in Downey, California, Taco Bell laid the cornerstone for a revolution the nation had never seen.

The Expansion to Canada

1981 Taco Bell expanded into Canada under TFS Holdings Inc., then known as Taco Foods Systems Inc. The opening of its first location in Belleville, Ontario (across from CFB Trenton) represented a pivotal milestone for Canadian restaurant enthusiasts. Today, with around 6,500 locations and counting, the company’s extensive franchise network has flourished since its inception on March 21, 1962.
