    About The Lastmans Bad Boy

Lastmans Bad Boy Logo- Lastmans Bad Boy Contest

The Bad Boy phenomenon began in 1955 when Mel Lastman opened his first Bad Boy store on Weston Road. Mel’s post stated that Bad Boy was “the place to shop” because of its great prices and service.

Mel immediately became a legend in Toronto with his creative publicity stunts, such as selling two-for-one bills, billed as “the best two-for-one deal you could find.” Mel’s charisma and business acumen were the catalysts that transformed a store into an impressive chain of over 40 branches across Canada.

In 1972, Mel turned to politics and ran for mayor of North York. Mel won the election and, in 1975, decided it was time to sell off his beloved empire of furniture, appliances, and electronics and focus solely on serving his hometown.

Young Blayne Lastman, then just 14, was determined to continue the Bad Boy legacy one day. During this time, Mel won the hearts and admiration of voters and served as mayor for over 34 consecutive years, earning him the name “Mega City Mel.”

Then, in 1991, Blayne resumed the Bad Boy name and stormed Ontario. His decision to reopen the new store in downtown Toronto has made many opponents scratch their heads. Blayne’s drive and passion have also led to further growth.

    The Lastmans Bad Boy History

A Whitby office opened in 1998, followed by Barrie in 1999. In early 1999, World Wrestling Entertainment partnered with Bad Boy to promote the two entities through store visits and autograph sessions with some of the most prominent wrestlers of the time.

In 2002, Bad Boy’s success and expansion plans necessitated a move to a 110,000-square-foot warehouse in North York, ensuring prompt delivery to all customers.

In 2006, Bad Boy officially became Lastmans Bad Boy and Mel was proclaimed Honorary Chairman of the Board. With Mel back on board, the business is back to square one.

In 2007, Bad Boy was in full swing with the opening of three stores in just one year. The communities of Kitchener, London and Burlington, were all opened in June 2008.

2012 has been another exciting year for the mission to rebuild Bad Boy Lastman to its former glory, with the opening of a brand new 30 000 square feet in Brampton.

October 2016 led to the “Next Generation of Savings,” when Blayne’s daughter, Samantha Lastman, officially joined the Bad Boy family as Director of Business Development.

Following Samantha’s excitement at the start of her Bad Boy career, Bad Boy’s tenth permanent location opened in Ancaster, Ontario, in June 2017!
