The first-ever episode of Wheel of Fortune aired was an instant hit. Hosted by Chuck Chandler, this show iteration featured three contestants competing for cash and prizes by solving puzzles based on wordplay.
Wheel of Fortune switched networks, moving to Global Television Network and receiving a modern facelift. Gone were Chuck Chandler and his trusty sidekick, replaced by popular host Bob Costas and announcer Shane Seymour
The good news is that Canadians didn’t have to wait too long before they could get their fix again; in 2001, Wheel of Fortune returned to CTV, where it remains today—albeit with some changes. Hosted by Pat Sajak since 2001 (with Vanna White joining him in 2005), this version saw several changes to the format, including larger prizes, more contestants per episode, and increased opportunities for audience participation through online voting for bonus rounds.
