Are you a Closet Couponer?
I got a chance to see a lot of my family while on holidays, and this may surprise you: But my family did not know I coupon until they seen our my picture on tv in a tv interview in July.
So I did get harassed!
First it was my brother: He said I should be embarrassed for going on TV and telling every one in the world how Cheap I was!!! That kind of floored me….. Really saving money should be embarrassing?
I simply responded by saying, Why wouldn’t I ? I just picked up 5 free cases of Nestea Cool Ice Tea for Free! His girlfriend then asked How - So I was helpful and told her where to find them.
This ended that awkward situation.
I then visited my Mother a few days later:
She was telling me about her neighbour whom drives across town for five cents cheaper, and I should be her friend, cause we’re both so cheap, and that I didn’t realize that saving money costs money in other ways, and that couponing was a waste of time! And then she told me that stores don’t accept them!
WOW! This one floored me! I simply responded by telling her I just finished couponing with my friend Niki and where we shopped using coupons, and that they all accepted them.
She then defended herself that she doesn’t get mailed coupons, and how she lives on her own, and shops sales when she see’s them. I didn’t bother saying anymore.
This isn’t the first time someone has verbally assaulted me over couponing. But it still shocks me! I think it shocks me, since I don’t go around bragging to people I know on how much money I saved today by shopping. Yes I might write it on here, but obviously your interested or you wouldn’t read it.
My friends and family ( most of them) don’t read or belong to this blog at all, and I don’t try to convert everyone I know into couponing or saving money. Everyone has a different needs and wants in life, and if Saving money is a religion, I’m not going to be the missionary that runs door to door to spread the word.
I came to the realization I’m a Closet Couponer! Or I was till I went on TV!
I’m just glad I decided not to go to the family reunion!

Everything Coupons Canada!
I have been collecting freebies since I was about 13 (I’m 60 now) and couponing just comes naturally, I even converted my daughters to freebies and coupons…..working on the in-laws…..I have even had cashiers(walmart) ask if I ever price match and said it was a good thing the lowest price always is best

I get teased all the time…but it doesnt bother me in the least! Getting a really good coupon or something for free or next to free makes me really happy.

To me, coupons = money notes. I rather pull out coupons from the mail instead of pulling out cash from banking account. Don’t be discouraged!

I get bugged about it all the time. I dont care. I was a “closet couponer” until recently. I dont just do it to save money I really enjoy it. It a challenge sometimes and thats what I like about it. I mean really I could have chosen a worse hobby lol. MY friends now call me “clipper” lol.

My hubby and some friends have made fun of me for using coupons, until of course they see my savings… Checkouts are a different story, the looks, the comments…All I say at the end is WOW look how much I saved..and How much will you be saving today…

My husband used to be embarrassed when I pulled out a stack of coupons for the cashier, or when I sent him to get something for me with a coupon… Until he saw how much money we really were saving! Last year(2011) I used just over $4,000 in coupons, and this year I’ve already used $5,000 and it’s only of August!

i haven’t been teased like you have and i have had people mutter under their breath in the check out line while i do the price matching(not that will stop me). my daughter has rolled her eyes at me about couponing and price matching but she has come home with samples/ coupons from work that was dropped off by one of their customers. when she goes to the U.S. shopping with her friend they print off coupons before they go. i must be rubbing off on her lol
